"The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk"

"The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier", produced by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, this time presented in Madrid, is an exposition that takes you to a delightful and fantastic journey. I was immediately surprised by the very impressive animated mannequins that looked straight into your eye, smiling, whispering and even singing to you. Different exposition rooms divided by exquisite themes, each room taking you to a fragment of Gaultier´s world. (The Odyssey of Jean Paul Gaultier, The boudoir, Skin Deep, Punk Cancan, Urban Jungle and Metropolis). I enjoyed very much the "punk-cancan section" inspired by Bowie and Vivian Westwood, shocking and amazing skin suits looking like muscle tissue and of course all the outfits made for Madonna´s shows along the years. I also loved to see the costume design of Almodovar´s films such as "La mala educación" and "La piel que habito". 

Subversive, symbolic and beautiful masterpieces in an exposition which Gaultier considers his "biggest show ever". No doubt about that.

 

 

    

REAL MAKE-UP DRAWINGS

I have used real make-up to give a colorful and bright look to these portrait drawings. You can notice that I used a greenish pearl color in their eyes and blush for their cheeks. It is old make-up, and since I never use much of it, I end up using it for something else, specially for painting on paper. It looks amazing, glossy, shiny and dusty, the experience with textures is great. I will keep combining this left overs of make-up with my daily color pencils.

REBEL REBEL

I just finished the "rebel rebel" character and compo, I like the way it turned out, specially had fun creating the patterned fabric he/she is wearing. The pattern is made using a random photograph of my everyday life, trying to input a digital and intimate approach to the illustration. Still don´t know if it´s a boy or a girl. You decide :)

IMAGES FROM A POST CONCERT

Last summer I went to see Chilly Gonzales at Teatros Canal. I won´t say how incredible, marvelous and fantastic this guy is, how much I laughed with his humorous rap, how much I got excited and impressed of his multiple talents. Anyways. I found a random picture I took to the crowd after that concert trying to buy the DVD from Gonzales, and created the images above. One is called "Male Polo Shirt" and the other one "Tattooed boy and his girlfriend". The boy is the same guy from the polo shirt by the way.

A SPECIAL GIFT

My time is well measured these weeks with the holidays coming soon. I´m separating the amount of work to be delivered and the parallel work that involves the practice of drawing, art projects and of course the Christmas presents and other celebrations. For my mother's birthday I´m preparing a little illustration composition of several gerbera flowers which are her favorite (or at least I know she loves them). The gerberas are like daisies but very colorful, I really have to buy some soon to show some love to my work space :)

Tengo las horas bien medidas estas últimas semanas, con la navidad a la vuelta de la esquina y el año 2012 mermando. Me encuentro separando la cantidad precisa de trabajo por entregar y el trabajo paralelo que conlleva la práctica del dibujo, los proyectos artísticos y por supuesto la responsabilidad de los convencionalismos de la época. Lo que más me gusta es que mi madre cumple años. A parte de los planes ya hechos para su celebración, estoy preparando una ilustración compuesta por varias flores gerberas, que son sus favoritas o por lo menos estoy segura de que no le desagradan. Las Gerberas son como las Margaritas pero de colores brillantes y pasionales. ¿Se escriben los nombres de las flores con mayúsculas?.
